I am very pleased with its performance and would recommend it to anyone needing an extra straight edge. The clamp system does take a bit getting used to but have already had several succesfull straight cuts using this as a guide. As a beginning woodworker it is often difficult for me to get a straight cut when using a hand or circular saw. This tool is an awesome addition to my arsenal of tools in the quest for the ever elusive straight edge.
I use it with either my Jig or Skill saw and it makes even large cross cuts a breeze. This thing is great. Great product. It is also handy for laying out the cuts in advance. My brother n law turned me on to the portable fence and I had to have one. I don't have a lot of spare room to house a table saw so this was a great alternative.
This guide will certainly do this, but don't expect your cuts be to square. [.].If you're going to use a clamping system you should be able to have precision and accuracy when cutting and this doesn't fulfill the promises of the manufacturer. Unless I'm doing something wrong, this clamping guide isn't all it's made out to be. I even bought longer 'guide feet' (not sure what to call them), which are supposed to create a larger surface to square against, and this too doesn't really help. Good luck. Here's my story: I already have a very nice table saw that has rails long enough to cut a full sheet of plywood in half, though that doesn't mean it's something that I like to do while I'm alone. That being said, I like to use the circular saw to make the panels more manageable in size before putting them on the table saw.
Works good but shipping is horrendous pay for extra shipping do not use free shipping. Then cut to exact lenght with my table saw. This is a very good useful tool. I make car audio boxes and I use it to ruff cut my pieces to make them more manageable.
The product does not self square despite what you would think so if you do not take care in how you position ( measure both ends of dado ) you will get off sqaure cuts. I do alot of dado cutting with a router and have used a straight edge of red oak with two clamps as a guide. I am back to the red oak straight edge for this project. One more note, I thought by getting the 50 incher that I would have more flexibity, but on short pieces like 12 and 15 inch wide plywood be careful you need to brace the Clamp or the long end will pull your work up.Maybe I will conquer getting the clamping action to work, but in my opinion it is not a time saver. Also, I tried working with it on 3/4 inch plywood bookcases I was making for a client and on four of five tries when I pushed router against straight edge it moved. I saw this product and thought wow this would eliminate tha clampting and it would be self sqauring thus minimize time for measuring. Not so.
